This op-ed originated from an Instagram post shared on 29 October by Sam McKnight, hairstylist and brand founder.I’ve been involved with London Fashion Week since my dear friend Lynne Franks helped start it over 40 years ago, and, my, how it has evolved. However, the backstage conditions can leave a lot to be desired; too often unsanitary, ridiculously cramped, hot and frankly unsafe for the 120-plus artists, models, stylists and photographers to do their respective jobs to the standards expected.I’ve been banging on for at least 20 years (at the risk of sounding like a grumpy old man — and…
If you’ve been curious about trying retinol but want something a little gentler to start with, the best bakuchiol serums might be your perfect entry point. Bakuchiol has been gaining traction in skin-care circles because it offers many of the same benefits as retinol—think smoother texture, more even skin tone, and softened fine lines—but with a much lower risk of irritation. “Bakuchiol is a gentle, plant-derived alternative to retinol that helps boost cell turnover and support collagen production,” says Nazanin Saedi, MD, a board-certified dermatologist based in East Norriton, PA.Other major perks? Unlike traditional retinoids, “bakuchiol does not increase your…

“Sisterhood is about who you choose along the way,” Glamour’s global editorial director Samantha Barry told a hyped-up audience at The Plaza—although in a sweet move, her own big sister had flown from across the world to be there to support too. On Tuesday evening, the publication hosted its annual rallying celebration of the changemakers who make us cry, laugh, and dream. With honorees, musical interludes, and even cheerleaders in attendance—it made for a crowd buzzing with big sleepover energy.Upon arrival to the grande dame hotel’s Palm Court bar, guests gabbed over cocktails and chatted excitedly about the prospects of…
The Supreme Court heard argument on Monday in Rico v. United States about whether defendants who flee from their probation officers’ supervision during their term of supervised release (the conditions one must follow after being released from incarceration) can claim that the term of supervision continued and then expired when they were a fugitive. If the term of supervision can expire while a defendant is a fugitive, and a doctrine called fugitive tolling does not apply to prevent that expiration, then a court would lack the power to issue any warrant or summons for new violations of the conditions of supervision after the term’s…
Eventually, I booked a dermatologist appointment. The doctor thought it could be psoriasis; I was sticking with my chemical burn theory. A biopsy came back: seborrheic dermatitis. Spoiler alert—it wasn’t. Turns out, the procedure didn’t paint the entire picture because it was a shave biopsy and didn’t get to the full root of the issue, just scraping the surface. So when I applied the prescribed steroid faithfully, nothing changed. The lesions had signed a lease in perpetuity and neither triamcinolone acetonide nor betamethasone dipropionate could evict them. With my self-esteem unraveling, I booked another appointment—this time at a different practice. Claudia…
The Relist Watch column examines cert petitions that the Supreme Court has “relisted” for its upcoming conference. A short explanation of relists is available here. The Supreme Court is meeting in conference this Friday for the first time in three weeks. A lot of cases have built up during that time – 263 to be precise, almost twice as many cases as were at the last October conference. Only one of those cases has been relisted for the first time, though: Watson v. Republican National Committee, which asks the justices to decide what “election day” (or “the day for the election”) means. In Watson,…
My skin and I have been through a lot together. After a grueling battle with cystic acne through my early twenties, I finally cleared things up after two rounds of Accutane. It changed my life, but it was a lot for my skin, so I try to be gentler on her now. I tend to keep actives to a minimum (aside from my Sofie Pavitt Face Mandelic Clearing Serum) and treat my skin to gentle, ultra-hydrating products. However, as I get closer and closer to 30—T-minus six months to go—I’ve been getting the itch to do a little something more.…
Highly popularized by stylist Allison Bornstein, the “wrong shoe” theory gave us permission to embrace the unexpected—and pair opposing pieces together for a surprisingly harmonious look. This fall, the idea evolves beyond footwear: introducing the wrong coat theory.A Cheat Sheet to the “Wrong Coat Trend” LookThe Easy HuggiesBrilliant Earth luxe diamond huggie earringsJump to reviewFinding inspiration in last fall’s runways, there are plenty of examples of balanced contradiction. Prada sent barn jackets with swinging fringe skirts down the runway, Miu Miu showed pajama pants under a wool coat, and Ralph Lauren proposed shimmering gowns underneath soft cardigans. Each look redefined…
